Is your business prepared for a Krack Attack?

Is your business prepared for a Krack Attack?

Malicious cyber attacks are not only rising by the day, but also becoming increasingly sophisticated in nature.

Just a couple of weeks ago Belgian security experts warned that the security protocol used to protect the vast majority of Wi-Fi connections could be broken. This means all modern protected Wi-Fi networks could potentially be exposed to hackers using this new technique to steal sensitive information like credit card numbers, passwords and emails.

The weakness discovered in the WPA2 security protocol means that an attacker within range of the Wi-Fi network can exploit the fault using key reinstallation attacks (Kracks). This means that they can read information which was previously assumed to be encrypted. Depending on the network configuration, they could also insert and manipulate data, such as injecting ransomware or other malware into websites.

Cyber shocks

Given the recent increase in impact and severity of attacks, one would assume that companies are raising their game accordingly and shoring up their cyber defences.

But according to PwC’s Global State of Information Security Survey nearly one in five UK organisations have still not prepared for a cyber attack. Only 49% had conducted penetration tests to examine their cyber defences.

The report also found that more than a quarter of UK organisations (28%) were not aware of how many cyber attacks they experienced in the past year, while a third did not know how the incidents happened.

Strengthen your defences

PwC’s survey reinforces both the severity and frequency of cyber attacks and the need for organisations to seek the necessary expertise to protect their IT systems – and by extension, their reputation.

This is where cyber security services such as penetration testing come in. Pen testing is essentially where ethical hacking is used to attack the digital defences set up by companies against cyber-villains.

Here at Transputec, we give you the most advanced pen testing in the form of Cybot – the next generation tool that not only highlights network vulnerabilities but also shows you any likely attack pathways. It’s like having an ethical hacker on your network testing each and every node around the clock to make sure you’re protected as much as possible against future risks.

Cybot provides real time information in simple language about where cyber vulnerabilities are, while allowing management teams to see how weaknesses are being managed and fixed. Most importantly, it shows you exactly what needs to be done to keep your company cyber-safe in this climate of ever increasing risk – both now and in the future.
