The pattern we see

Most UK digital products are not failing on features. They are failing on first impression.

Three problems show up in every UX engagement we replace. If any of these sound familiar, your product's conversion or adoption rate is leaving money on the table every day.

High abandonment in onboarding

Users sign up, get to step 3, and leave. Activation rate stalls. Analytics tells you where they leave but not why. The team guesses fixes that do not stick.

Research-led journey redesign. Median onboarding-completion lift of 38% within 90 days of a redesign going live.

Accessibility audit failure

Audit shows 47 WCAG violations. Public-sector contract is at risk. Retrofitting accessibility into a shipped product costs 5x more than designing it in.

WCAG 2.2 AA designed in from sprint 1. Every design reviewed against axe-core and screen-reader testing before handoff.

Dev team building from guesses

Design hands a Figma file over the wall, dev builds something different, product manager asks why it does not match. Three rounds of rework per feature.

Developer-ready Figma handoff with design tokens, component library, behaviour specs, and direct designer-engineer pairing during build.

Four core capabilities. One UK design team.

What our User Experience Design service includes.

Research, design, prototyping, accessibility and developer handoff, delivered as one accountable service by UK senior UX designers, with one fixed price and one escalation contact.

User research & journey mapping

User-led

User interviews, contextual inquiry, jobs-to-be-done analysis, journey maps and personas. Evidence to base design decisions on, not preference.

Prototyping & usability testing

Figma proto

High-fidelity Figma prototypes tested on 5-8 real users per round. Critical issues surfaced before any code was written. Faster than fixing in production.

Design system & component library

Token-based

A comprehensive, reusable Figma component library with design tokens (colour, spacing, type) mapped to your developers' codebase. Scales across teams.

Accessibility & handoff

WCAG 2.2 AA

Accessibility designed in: colour contrast, focus order, and screen-reader labels. Developer-ready Figma handoff with behaviour specs and asset export.

How we run a UX engagement

First prototype in 2 weeks. Ready for build in 6 to 10.

A predictable three-phase delivery so your product team has tested, accessible designs ready for engineering within the first quarter.

01

Days 1 – 4

Research

User interviews, journey mapping, jobs-to-be-done analysis. Existing-product audit if applicable. Insights agreed before any pixel is drawn. Typically 2-3 weeks.

02

Days 5 – 10

Design

High-fidelity Figma designs, component library, accessibility review. Two rounds of usability testing on real users. Iterate based on evidence, not opinion.

03

Day 11 onwards

Hand over & pair

Developer-ready Figma handoff with tokens, components, behaviour specs. Paired designer-engineer sessions through the first build sprint.

Why Transputec

Four reasons UK product leaders choose us for UX design.

Not the cheapest design studio. Not the largest. But the team that consistently lifts the conversion, accessibility and adoption metrics your board cares about, in measurable numbers.

01

Evidence-led, not opinion-led

Every design decision is documented against user research, usability tests or analytics. We bring evidence, not aesthetic preferences.

02

Accessibility built in, not bolted on

WCAG 2.2 AA from sprint 1. Every design reviewed against axe-core and screen-reader testing. Public-sector + regulated-industry ready.

03

Designer-engineer bridge

Direct pairing with your engineers during build. Design tokens map to your codebase. Three rounds of rework per feature becomes one.

04

UX Design FAQs

What UK product leaders ask before signing.

User experience design consulting is an outsourced engagement covering user research, journey mapping, prototyping, usability testing, design systems, accessibility review and developer-ready handoff, delivered by an external senior design team under a fixed monthly or project fee. Unlike a generic design agency, UX consulting is evidence-led (research and testing) rather than aesthetic-led (visual preference), and is judged on measurable product KPIs (activation, retention, conversion, accessibility) not on design awards. Transputec’s UX is delivered by UK-based senior designers under ISO 27001 controls. For wider context on digital adoption, read our blog on AI consulting services for low-code and no-code success. Our practice aligns with the W3C WCAG 2.2 standard.

UX (user experience) design is the structural work: research, journey mapping, information architecture, interaction patterns, accessibility and the evidence behind each decision. UI (user interface) design is the visual layer on top: colour, typography, iconography, layout polish. A complete product design engagement covers both, but they are different skill sets and different deliverables. Our senior designers cover both, and we make clear in the SoW which sprints are research-heavy vs design-heavy. Read our deeper take on exploring the potential of generative AI in e-commerce for a worked example of UX + product strategy.

UK User Experience Design pricing is typically project-based on the discovery + design + handoff cycle, with bands by scope. Single-product redesign (research + Figma prototype + 2 rounds of usability testing + handoff, 6-10 weeks): £28K-68K. Multi-product platform or design-system build-out (12-20 weeks): £75K-180K. Retainer-based ongoing UX team (1-2 senior designers embedded): £9K-18K per designer per month. Fixed price per project, no day-rate top-ups. We publish the costed scope in the SoW before contract signature.

Yes. WCAG 2.2 AA is designed in from sprint 1, not added at the end. Every design is reviewed against axe-core and validated with screen-reader testing on NVDA + VoiceOver + JAWS. Colour contrast, focus order, semantic structure, keyboard navigation, error messaging, motion safety, all addressed in the Figma file before handoff. This is critical for public-sector contracts (gov.uk, NHS DSPT) and increasingly for regulated-industry products. See a real legal-services UX engagement in our website development case study for the City of London Law Society.

We agree the measurement framework in week one. Standard UX KPIs we lift on most engagements: activation rate (% of new users completing key first action), onboarding completion (% finishing signup flow), task success rate (% completing core task without help), time-on-task (median seconds), Net Promoter Score (NPS) trend, accessibility audit pass rate, and System Usability Scale (SUS) score. Each is benchmarked pre-engagement and tracked monthly post-launch. WCAG 2.2 AA is the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, level AA, the global accessibility standard. For UK organisations it matters for three reasons. Public-sector procurement: the UK Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018 make WCAG 2.2 AA conformance a legal requirement for public-sector websites and apps. Equality Act 2010: failure to make a reasonable adjustment is unlawful disability discrimination, and digital services count. Commercial reach: ~22% of UK adults are disabled (ONS), and accessibility uplifts almost always improve SEO and conversion. See the official W3C WCAG 2.2 guidance.
