The reality

When your infrastructure becomes the bottleneck, the business slows.

We hear this from every IT Director who switches to a managed IaaS. Three problems, all solvable, and all draining capital and engineering time you’d rather spend on growth.

Capex commitments lock your cash flow.

Buying servers ties up capital, locks you into hardware refresh cycles, and forces you to over-provision for peak demand you only hit twice a year, every year.

Pay-as-you-go IaaS. Match cost to actual usage.

Hardware refresh cycles slow you down.

Every 3-5 years you face another procurement project, another data migration, another weekend cutover. Innovation pauses for months while ops catches up.

Always-current hardware, refresh handled by us.

In-house capacity planning is guesswork.

Over-provision and you waste money. Under-provision and your team firefights at peak. Either way, the business pays in reduced efficiency and lost productivity.

Auto-scale on demand. Capacity matches load.

What you get

Four outcomes, one accountable team.

Not a long features list: four operational outcomes that show up in your CFO’s monthly report and your CTO’s roadmap velocity. Every one of them runs from a UK Network Operations Centre.

Predictable monthly costs

Pay monthly

Per-vCPU, per-GB-RAM and per-GB-storage pricing. Your CFO knows the bill by the 10th of every month, with no surprise growth-tax.

Always-current infrastructure

Auto-patched

Hardware refresh, firmware patches, hypervisor updates: all handled. You consume capacity, not maintenance.

Scale on demand

Auto-scale

10 to 10,000 VMs in minutes. M&A, seasonal peaks, product launches: capacity follows demand without procurement projects.

UK data sovereignty

UK only

All workloads in UK Azure, AWS or our own UK data centres by default. GDPR, ICO and FCA reporting come as standard monthly output.

How it works

Three phases from on-prem to fully managed IaaS.

Most IaaS migrations are sold as one-shot lift-and-shift. Ours are designed in waves, measured against business outcomes, and run by the same UK team that operates the platform afterwards.

01

Weeks 1 – 3

Discover

Workshop your estate, baseline spend, and identify migration candidates. You leave with a costed plan and delivery engineer.

02

Weeks 4 – 12

Migrate

Non-destructive wave migration. Test, validate, cutover, with fall-back ready at every step. Zero data loss focus.

03

Day 1 onwards

Manage

24/7 NOC monitoring, monthly cost optimisation, quarterly architecture review. Fixed monthly fee, no per-ticket charges.

Why Transputec

Why our IaaS doesn’t behave like a typical hyperscaler reseller.

Most IaaS providers resell hyperscale capacity with a thin layer of support on top. We’ve spent 38 years engineering managed infrastructure as a discipline, and it shows up in the four things our clients tell us they buy us for.

01 · UK data sovereignty

All workloads in the UK by default.

Default deployments go to UK regions of Azure (UK South / UK West), AWS (London / Manchester) or our own UK data centres. Your data never leaves the UK without your explicit written approval.

02 · ISO 27001 certified

Compliance baked in, not bolted on.

Every layer of your stack monitored and managed under ISO 27001 controls. Audit packs on demand. GDPR, ICO and FCA reporting comes as standard monthly output.

03 · Multi-cloud, vendor-neutral

Azure-first, AWS-fluent, hybrid-ready.

Azure if you’re Microsoft-centric, AWS for analytics, hybrid for regulated workloads. We design what fits, not what we sell. No vendor lock-in baked into our SoW.

04 · Fixed monthly fee

Your CFO can predict next year’s spend today.

No per-ticket charges, no surprise growth-tax bills, no hidden data-egress fees. One fixed monthly fee, with capacity-elasticity terms documented before contract signature.

Frequently asked

Answers to what UK IT leaders ask us most.

Infrastructure as a Service is a cloud computing model where you rent compute, storage, networking and virtualisation from a third party rather than buying and managing the hardware yourself. Transputec’s IaaS spans Azure, AWS and our own UK data centres, with everything monitored and managed by our UK-based engineering team under ISO 27001 controls. Our practice follows the ITIL 4 service-management framework. For a broader operational view, see our guide on key strategies of IT infrastructure management.

UK IaaS pricing is consumption-based: typically £25-80 per vCPU/month, plus £0.05-0.15 per GB storage/month, plus bandwidth at near-cost. Mid-market estates of 100-500 VMs land between £8K and £45K per month, fully managed. We publish a costed sizing in the Statement of Work before contract signature, with no per-ticket charges. See real client savings in our high-performance IaaS case study for the Diocesan IT Consortium.

IaaS gives you raw compute and storage, you bring the OS, runtime and application. PaaS adds the runtime and middleware (you bring just the code). SaaS gives you the fully-finished application (you bring just the data). Most mid-market estates use all three. Our IaaS service is the foundation: secure, scalable, UK-resident compute that you build the rest of your stack on. Choosing between hyperscalers? Read our AWS vs Azure platform comparison for UK business.

By default, all workloads run in UK regions of Microsoft Azure (UK South / UK West) or AWS (London). For regulated estates we also offer dedicated tenancy in our own UK data centres. Your data never leaves the UK without your explicit written approval. GDPR, ICO and FCA reporting comes as standard monthly output. For the wider picture, read cloud security for UK SMEs: protecting data in AWS and Azure.

Yes. We’ve migrated 50+ on-prem and hosted estates to our managed IaaS, ranging from 10 to 2,000 VMs. The standard approach is a non-destructive wave migration: we lift-and-shift first to prove parity, then re-platform or re-architect the workloads that benefit. You get a costed migration plan before any code is touched, and a rigorous zero-data-loss approach on every wave. See a real migration story in our Azure cloud migration for Incisive Media, and read our CTO guide to cloud migration in 2026. Explore the full Managed IT Services pillar to see how IaaS fits with our wider operations capability.

Yes. The UK’s major IaaS platforms (Azure UK South / UK West, AWS London region) hold ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus and G-Cloud assurance, with contractual UK data residency. We design every UK landing zone against NCSC Cloud Security Principles, with role-based access, encryption at rest in transit and full audit trails enabled by default, so financial services, healthcare and public-sector workloads meet FCA, ICO and NHS DSPT controls. Read the NCSC Cloud Security guidance or see our cloud security service for hardening.
