Tommaso Amorosi

Hi. My name is Tommaso Amorosi, and I am Italian. I studied both computer science and engineering, with a priority in computer science. My reason for being here is work experience. What I learned was to communicate with people who are less technical than I am. For example, if I were to say, “The CPU is overheating,” for me it translates to the main processor of the computer is getting hot, and I should not load too many processes on it to let it cool down for a bit. I had to learn how to communicate with people who are not as technical as me without the assumption that they understand technical lingo, so I had to convert it to non-technical lingo so there was understanding. In the process, I learnt professional translation of raw, crude concepts to be coherent to people of multiple backgrounds.

My future is one of two paths. The first one is cybersecurity; the second one is machine learning and AI. I learned cybersecurity and loved cryptography. I learned how the algorithms worked and tested them by seeing how they worked. I assessed how they performed when you dial the security up or down. For machine learning and AI, I made a prototype climate model at uni as my capstone case study for its applications in logistics optimisation. At the time, I used SARIMAX to forecast the temperature and rainfall to predict the potential event of a drought.

I would recommend doing an internship here because there are good people here. I felt supported here, which made asking questions easier when it came to asking for help. They have an understanding that you are learning about the professional world. That made the experience feel more real and less intimidating
