Hello, I’m Patricia Mata, and I had the opportunity to complete an 11-month internship at Transputec.
I chose Transputec because I wanted to work in a technology-driven company where I could gain practical experience, explore different areas of business and challenge myself professionally. Transputec stood out to me because of the variety of projects and learning opportunities it offered, particularly through Crisis Control. I wanted an internship where I could make a real contribution rather than simply observe, and that is exactly what I found.
From the very beginning, I felt valued and supported. I had the support of an incredible team and an amazing supervisor who were always willing to help, guide me and share their knowledge. My ideas and contributions were listened to, and I was trusted with meaningful responsibilities. There was not a single day when I felt bored, had nothing to do or walked away without learning something new.
Throughout these 11 months, I had the opportunity to explore many different areas. I worked closely with Ricky and the Crisis Control team and interacted with colleagues across the wider Transputec business. My experience included project management, product research, testing, user-interface improvements, accessibility, event organisation and internal presentations. I also gained exposure to people management, marketing and sales activities, and developed a better understanding of how a company operates and how different teams work together.
I was able to contribute to real projects while developing both technical and professional skills.
One thing that surprised me after joining Transputec was how much trust and responsibility I was given as an intern. I was not treated as someone who was only there to watch or carry out small tasks. I was encouraged to share my ideas, ask questions, take initiative and become genuinely involved in the work of the team.
This internship challenged me, taught me more than I expected and helped me better understand myself, my strengths and the kind of professional I want to become.
My advice to future interns would be to remain curious, ask questions and take advantage of every opportunity. Do not be afraid to share your ideas or volunteer for something unfamiliar. Be open to feedback, speak to people from different teams and try to understand the wider business, not only the tasks assigned to you. The more initiative you take, the more you will learn and grow.
I would choose this opportunity all over again.
