Database Administrator (DBA)

Role Description
A DBA provides full administration of production and non-production databases. DBA performs daily administrative activities on all databases and ensures that thet are continuously monitored to detect potential problems in order to proactively address issues before service outage occurs.

A DBA provides full administration of production and non-production databases. DBA performs daily administrative activities on all databases and ensures that thet are continuously monitored to detect potential problems in order to proactively address issues before service outage occurs. DBA is responsible for applying security patches, tunes production databases, responds to critical issues, and ensures database backups are working correctly and are restorable when required.  The database administrators work closely with the application owners, system managers and developers to solve any database problems and provide any best practice recommendations.

DBA Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, tune, implement and upgrade DBMS installations
  • Proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements
  • Write and deploy SQL patches
  • Process work accurately and in a timely manner
  • Collate, prepare and present statistical information for internal and external use
  • Monitoring database access and configuring access control systems
  • Ensuring data integrity and security
  • Analyzing database performance and carrying out performance tuning and maintenance
  • Identifying and resolving any system issues
  • Pay attention to detail at all times
  • Developing, managing and testing backup and data recovery plans
  • Checking that databases are compliant with rules on privacy and the protection of personal data
  • Provide guidance and assistance to Developers on database architecture, schema design, code review, SQL query tuning

DBA Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related information technology field 
  • 5 years of experience with database languages categories DDL, DML, DCL & TCL with specific languages SQL, XQuery, OQL SQL/XML, GraphQL, LINQ
  • Easily design and implement a business process into functional and efficient code
  • Implement and manage company data management practices and policies
  • 5 years of experience in administering, managing and tuning databases
  • 5 years of experience with Postgres SQL, SQL Server or MySQL
  • Good understanding of data and schema standards and concepts
  • Good understand database design, implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance 
  • Expertise in SQL
