Senior Network Engineer

Role Description: As Senior Network Engineer you will provide professional and technical support on network engineering issues and be responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures that meet business objectives and SLAs.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will:

  • Establish the networking environment by designing system configuration, directing system installation and defining, documenting and enforcing system standards
  • Support all aspects of data center construction and network deployment including new greenfield sites, collocation build outs, and retrofits
  • Work with network engineering, data center design, and data center connectivity teams to generate network infrastructure design packages for the deployment team
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for the physical infrastructure and design and deployment of networks and other nonproduction networks in the data center
  • Undertake data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments using information from multiple sources
  • Secure network systems by establishing and enforcing policies, and defining and monitoring access
  • Report network operational status by gathering and prioritising information and managing projects
  • Configure routing and switching equipment, hosted IP voice services and firewalls
  • Provide remote support to on-site engineers and end users/customers during installation
  • Provide remote troubleshooting and fault finding if issues occur upon initial installation
  • Undertake capacity management and audit of IP addressing and hosted devices within data centres
  • Liaise with project management teams, third-line engineers and service desk engineers on a regular basis
  • Speak to customers via email and phone for initial requirement capture.

Personal specification:

  • Strong to Expert level knowledge of (for both current and emerging technologies)
  • CCNP or higher (CCIE and/or CISSP highly valued)
  • Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
  • Experience in performing a range of telecommunications management duties on network devices, including design, installation, debug, maintenance, upgrades and general support.
  • Experience in administration and management of configuration, fault finding and the maintenance of networks, LAN, WAN, routers, switches, firewalls, servers, workstations and applications
  • Ability to understand customer requirements and to architect a range of solutions (utilising the technologies above)
  • 5+ years’ experience in managing sophisticated computer networks
  • 3+ years’ experience in network architecture and deployment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving and ability to work methodically and logically
