Yesterday on the 12th of April, the Transputec team took to the sunny hills of North Downs Way, to take part in a 10K sponsored walk for Haven charity. HAVEN (Help A Village Emerge New) is a UK based charity working to provide a nurturing environment, where the less fortunate have the opportunity to improve living conditions within the local community in Tarapith, Birbhum, West Bengal, India.
Haven decided to help the poor in rural India by adopting a village in which they would build a community support centre. The centre would have medical, learning and elderly day care facilities. The villagers would have free use of all amenities in the centre. Transputec Ltd is their proud partner sponsoring and getting involved in the annual event.
Haven organised this charity walk to donate money towards people in need of hospital treatment/surgery. Many of the Transputec team attended this event in support of such charitable company. Like last year, the weather was wonderful, allowing the 10K walk to be enjoyable. Moreover, Shumi Ghosh from Haven prepared delicious refreshments for all participants during a break in the picturesque village called Shere as well as lunch at the end of the walk.
Rickie Sehgal, Chairman from Transputec said: “Haven are a unique charity that invest every penny from its donors back into providing services to the underprivileged children and villages in Atla Village in Tarapith, India. The work that they do is invaluable and makes a huge impact on many people’s lives. Recently a teenage girl received lifesaving heart surgery from UK doctors who gave their time and expertise to Haven. We are honoured to be associated with them and, look forward to working more closely with them in the future.”
Bas Van Marwijk, Intern Developer from Transputec: “The weather was really nice and warm, and it was a good opportunity to raise money for charity whilst soaking up the sunshine. Haven is a really valuable cause and I look forward to taking part again!”
All members of Transputec were involved, either by donating or being involved in the walk, raising a generous donation of over £2000.
The Trustee of Haven, Sushovan Ghosh appreciated Transputec’s help and went on to tell us how “…the contribution from Transputec will be going a long way, and is much appreciated. In 3 days’ time – 2 more girls will be undergoing heart surgery, and this money covers all costs involved. Without the money there would be no way any of this could be achieved.” He also went on to say; “…the day was wonderful from start to finish, and the positive attitude from everyone at Transputec made it all worthwhile”
Every penny raised at Haven goes to the beneficiaries as they operate strictly on a zero expense policy. It means the cost of the lunch, coffee and biscuits, which were provided on this walk, were all donated and did not come out of the funds from Haven. Transputec were happy to be a part of such a worthy cause and are grateful for all arrangements that Haven made in organising the amazing walk. We look forward to next year, where we can do it all again!
