Founder of pioneering IT company wins prestigious technology award

The founder of a pioneering London-based IT company that has grown from start-up to a global 150 strong business, with offices in India, Dubai and Manila, has just won the prestigious Asian Professional of the Year Award 2015 for IT and Technology. Rickie Sehgal, Chairman of Transputec, received the award at a glittering ceremony held at the 5-star Grange City Hotel near Tower Bridge.

Rickie has been a true pioneer within the IT industry for over 30 years, having founded his first company, Transputec, in 1984 and still going just as strong today. Each of his business ventures has been based on technical or market innovation. Transputec was one of the first companies in the world to develop and promote cloud computing, taken as standard today. Likewise, ITDealer provided a platform for IT users to source hardware products in real time from major manufacturers and distributors at a time when this type of source data aggregation was unheard of. Legal Technologies developed world leading technology to digitise evidential documents.

Rickie’s companies have a multi-million pound turnover, with major clients around the world, including McDonalds, Swissport and the UK Ministry of Justice. They employ over 150 people, in their UK headquarters in North London and in service centres around the globe, including in India and the Philippines. But Rickie is not content with this success and is still striving to innovate and create new products and markets. His latest start-up venture, Crises Control, is providing a mobile disaster recovery communications application that is unlike anything currently on the market.

Although Rickie is the public face of Transputec, he is eager that the credit for his award is properly shared around. On receiving the award he said:

“This award might have my name on it, but the true credit for it must be shared equally with my brother and long-time business partner Sonny Sehgal. Sonny and I have been in business together since the very start, when we were still students in London in the mid-1980’s. It is remarkable that 30 years later we are still together and still innovating, just like we did way back then.”

“The key to success in this, and any, business is never to stand still and stop innovating. Once you do that you are dead and many companies much bigger than ours have died that way. I am very proud of our traditional of constant innovation and Crises Control is just the latest, and I hope biggest, expression of that.”

Notes to Editors

Not content with running several successful companies, Rickie has always believed in giving back into the community and he has consistently pursued this belief through a number of different avenues. He is the founder of Global Reach, a joint venture of companies with partners across the UK, Europe, Asia and the US who benefit from multi-national collaboration. As a result, in 2005 received the Non-Resident Indian Institute’s prestigious Pride of India Award for business excellence – in recognition for his achievements in building economic and technology ties with India.

The Asian Professional Awards is designed to celebrate and honour the very best of Asian achievement across a range of professional sectors. It provides a platform to recognise and honour Asians who excel in their professional careers and contribute to the success of businesses big and small on a daily basis.
